Chaparral Systems Corporation (Chaparral) specializes in the field of traffic data collection and analysis. TRADAS (for TRAffic Data System), its flagship software product, provides comprehensive traffic data collection management, quality control, summarization, reporting, and database management services. We now offer those services on a transaction or fixed monthly fee basis, whereby clients may submit traffic data files to be processed by Chaparral. Our excellent customer service staff members are key to these services. These staff members are knowledgeable in both our traffic software and in traffic data. These personnel provide the expertise needed to make the analysis process successful.

This service is available for both permanent automatic traffic recorders and for short-term traffic counts. We process many types of traffic data, including vehicle volume, vehicle classification, speed, and weight data from weigh-in-motion studies.

Successful processing of traffic data requires a mechanism for correctly associating the data with a count site or station. Chaparral will work with a client agency on a one-time service setup process to establish this and other basic data interchange requirements. The cost of this setup service is established (based on several factors, mostly related to the nature of existing client databases) before the process begins. After setup, the cost of service can be based on either individual transactions or on a fixed monthly fee based on expected count volumes.

Two kinds of products can result from this service. Various reports are generated, depending on the type of data and the level of service desired. One of these reports will indicate the results of the quality control checks that our software performs. In many cases, our staff will consult with the client organization to resolve any ambiguous quality control decisions. Our staff will then appropriately flag the data before further processing.

The second product is an optional Public Database created in the client organization. If the client chooses this service, Chaparral will periodically (at intervals set by the client) update this database in the client location with traffic data that have passed the quality control processes. This database is easily accessible to the client through programs such as Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access.

This service, when combined with an effective field data collection program, will provide excellent traffic data for use by the client organization. With the optional Public Database, the data can be made accessible to as wide an audience as the client wishes, including Internet access.
