Chaparral Systems
Corporation (Chaparral), the only company focused exclusively on
traffic data collection and analysis, provides a full range of related
services to its customers. Our flagship product, TRADAS (for
TRAffic DAta System), is the only comprehensive traffic data collection
management, quality control, and analysis software product available.
In addition to supplying TRADAS, Chaparral offers the service of
operating the system for clients.
Product Description
TRADAS (TRAffic
DAta System)
TRADAS (TRAffic DAta System) is a software system for collecting,
editing, summarizing, and reporting a wide range of traffic data.
TRADAS 2006, written in Microsoft Visual C++®, Microsoft Visual
Basic 6® and Visual Basic .NET 2005®, and the Oracle® RDBMS
(up to 10g), is the fourth generation of this product. TRADAS 2006
is complete and ready for delivery and installation.
TRADAS 2006 offers many improvements over the earlier versions
of the product. These include:
- Calculation of site-specific HPMS statistics.
- Support for turning movement counts.
- New annual phase 4 "site AADT” calculations that
maintain current-year statistics for all sites, regardless of
count year.
- Enhanced support for the modification of site attributes.
- Optional Count Scheduler that provides a count schedule, field
sheets, and up-to-date status information about the short-term
count program.
- The same comprehensive features available in the earlier versions,
and more.
TRADAS is designed to meet the data processing requirements of
the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials'
(AASHTO’s) Guidelines for Traffic Data Programs. These
guidelines incorporate the recommendations of the Federal Highway
Administration’s (FHWA’s) Traffic Monitoring Guide and
the Highway Performance Monitoring System Field Manual.
TRADAS processes nearly all types of mainline traffic data (e.g.,
roadway volume, speed, vehicle classification, length classification,
and weight). Data from both permanent sites and short-term counts
are accommodated. The system performs a wide range of services
to assist the client in producing high-quality traffic data. These
include automatic detection of device type, five levels of quality
control (device, channel, count, monthly statistics, and annual
statistics), data summarization, data and statistics status management,
standard and ad hoc reporting, and database management.
The system also produces the TRADAS Public
Database, which is a mechanism for the controlled dissemination
of traffic data in a simple form. This is an Oracle database that
can be easily accessed through a variety of tools. We encourage
the use of the Microsoft Office product line for this purpose.
We have developed a series of views that can be used in Microsoft
Excel and Microsoft Access to make Public Database access a simple
task.
The system maintains statistics
at a variety of aggregation levels, making both detailed and
summary information immediately available to the user. In addition,
Chaparral, with its exclusive focus on traffic data, keeps the
system current with new requirements. For example, we will provide
the vehicle weight and classification data requirements for the
new Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide software.
The importance of traffic data expertise
and experience cannot be emphasized too much. Chaparral has been
exclusively in the traffic data software and research business
since 1988. Over the past decade, there have been several efforts
to develop custom solutions for traffic data processing. These
have met with only marginal success. The problem of communicating
traffic expertise to software developers is a leading reason for
the high development risk in these ventures. At Chaparral, our
programming staff is expert in both software technology and traffic
data. We have leveraged this experience into an excellent and comprehensive
product that you can install with no development risk.
Most important, we have a highly skilled support department to
provide long-term customer service for TRADAS users. Staff members
are knowledgeable of both the TRADAS software and of traffic data
in general. This permits them to respond to a wide range of problems
that often require more traffic knowledge than software knowledge. The strength of our product, combined with our excellent support,
make TRADAS the ideal foundation for an excellent traffic data
collection and analysis program. If you need such a solution, we
will be happy to provide an on-site, detailed demonstration of
TRADAS 2006. Contact Chaparral at (505) 438-7353 or e-mail us at info@chapsys.com to
arrange a demo, or to get more information about our capabilities. |
