Annualized (Year-end) Traffic Statistics - Multiple Data Source and Count Features

At the end of the defined year, a TRADAS user is provided with the ability to reconcile all the count data loaded for a site. If data does not pass a year-end data check, it is highlighted in yellow so the TRADAS user can determine the next data processing steps.

Annualization Data Type Features

The system processes volume, vehicle classification, speed, length, and weigh-in-motion (WIM) data. The system summarizes data according to the formulas set forth in the AASHTO Guidelines for Traffic Data Programs, with the volume definitions extended for binned and weigh-in-motion (WIM) data. The system maintains data at the same granularity they were collected, except that vehicle classification by speed will be maintained as vehicle classification and speed, to conserve storage space. The system maintains statistics at the lane, direction, and roadway levels. The system maintains hourly and, if applicable, quarter-hourly summaries for each roadway element and data bin (for example, vehicle classification or speed).

Annualization by Traffic Station Attribute Type

The system supplies the following statistics and maintains current versions of these statistics in the database. Each statistic is available by lane, direction, and roadway, and by each source bin (vehicle classification, length, speed,etc.). Below is a highlighted list of the traffic station attributes that can be summarized during year-end processing of data in the TRADAS system:

Annual Processing and Application of Factors

Every year DOT Agencies are required to publish (minimally) annual traffic statistics and some Agencies publish statistics more often than annual. The TRADAS system helps clients in achieving this annual publication of traffic statistics by automating a number of the year-end data processing steps. For example, the system calculates a count AADT estimate for short-term counts when the counts are processed using the considerations and requirements for a traffic data processing system. This estimate uses the appropriate adjustment factors to create the AADT. Short-term vehicle classification counts will be factored using the procedures set forth in the 2001 edition of the Traffic Monitoring Guide. Short-term counts can optionally be re-factored in annual processing, using the updated factors calculated for the current year. The system permits monthly and annual summarization to be performed for all sites or for selected sites.

Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) Reporting Features

Every year DOT Agencies are required to submit the HPMS report to the federal highway administration (FHWA). This can take a lot of time and effort if the data required for HPMS reporting is not centrally located in a data warehouse. The TRADAS data warehouse makes HPMS reporting easy and takes advantage of all the centralized data in the warehouse. Each statistic is reported for individual sites and will reflect the appropriate factor group calculated statistic as applicable. (e.g., axle factor group creates classification statistics and seasonal factor group creates volume statistics). Below is a highlighted list that the TRADAS system supplies to users for annual HPMS reporting purposes:
