Data Reporting

The TRADAS system provides users with a robust and comprehensive reporting module. This module contains standard reporting features as well as some ad-hoc customized reporting capabilities. Since there are so many traffic statistics stored in the centralized data warehouse, the reporting features of the TRADAS system make it easy for a user to search for data within the data warehouse. For more details on the various reporting options and features found within the TRADAS system, see the text and graphics below. The TRADAS product provides many reporting features and contains over 100 different standardized reports. Below is a highlighted list of reporting features found within the TRADAS product.

Exporting Data Features

Clients often work with traffic data outside the TRADAS system to create customized Microsoft Excel charts or graphs. The system provides exporting capabilities such as Microsoft Excel (.xls) or pdf formats. The system also provides data export capabilities to support the FHWA reporting requirements. Data exported includes (station, classification, weight, and volume) S, C, W, and V records. As new formats and requirements are defined, the TRADAS programming staff add new reporting capabilities to the system. For example, the new D-records (speed) will be available when the FHWA speed format is finalized.

Standard Data Filtering Report Features

In addition to the reporting functions available from other user interface displays, the system has a report management function specifically for generating supported reports. The user interface displays data and statistics at detailed, daily, monthly, and annual levels of granularity. The basic display form allows count selection based on any of the following filter criteria: site name, site group membership, collection method (AASHTO-based continuous or AASHTO-based short term), data type (volume integrated with class, length, speed, turning movements, or WIM vehicle records), or agent’s choice of processed or data date.

The basic display form allows site and date selection by duration of count (continuous versus short-term), site or site group, data type (volume, class, length, speed, turning movements, WIM, vehicle records), and either processed date or data date. The interface also displays a graphical representation of turning movements for intersections of up to eight legs.

Site NOTES Feature

The TRADAS product provides users with the ability to attach notes to a traffic station location. For example, a continuous counter might not have collected data for part of the calendar year and a TRADAS user might want to know that an AADT was created from only 6 months of the calendar year's worth of data. A note can be attached to this traffic site location so that when reports are generated, the notes for the site are also displayed. The user can also create Notes on data that identify unusual conditions and control how downstream processing treats that data. For example, in a construction event, the user might want to keep the data in TRADAS, but create a Note that tells the system to ignore that data when calculating AADTs or factors. Notes can be created at the following levels: System-wide (e.g. public holidays), Site Groups (e.g. local sporting event or weather), Site (e.g. construction), Counts (e.g. unusual conditions), Lanes (e.g. sensor remarks), or hours (e.g. tube comes up).

Report Criterion Features

The reporting display dialog box indicates the data types available for each selection of date, site, and collection method. Only sites and dates with data according to the current filter criteria are displayed for selection. Data or statistics with the selected criteria are automatically displayed when a specific date is clicked. The data display indicates the site identifier and date, and display the data in a grid with road element, data type value (for example, vehicle class identifier), and time as labels.

Other Reporting Features

There are occasions where a user loads data into the TRADAS system but after reviewing the data in a TRADAS report, the data appears to be suspect or inaccurate. The data purge function inside of the TRADAS system follows truth-in-data rules, and requires a reason and optional text explanation for the purge. A note can be attached to the site location to address this type of scenario.

Other features include the ability to highlight and copy data/text by having the TRADAS system data display allow the user to copy selected portions to the clipboard. The data display allows the operator to edit volume, vehicle classification, and vehicle records, if authorized. The individual vehicle record view allows display of a single vehicle classification, or of all vehicle classifications. The individual vehicle record display permits viewing all vehicle records, or permits scanning for only vehicle records with errors. The individual vehicle record display provides a graphical display of the axle layout of the displayed vehicles. Any data modifications follow truth-in-data rules; specifically, they require a reason code and optional text explanation for the change.

The system also allows viewing and editing of context/reference data, including agencies, counties, traffic data collection device types, factor groups, functional classifications, sites, and site groups. The system supplies a mechanism for viewing calculated adjustment factors and for supplementing them as necessary to produce a complete set. The system allows ASCII raw data files to be viewed in their native format. Binary raw data files are converted to a common ASCII format for display purposes.

Finally, the system minimally includes the following standard reports. Please ask for the TRADAS Sample Reports document for a full listing of reports:
